SUMMARY:Anna Mieke and Rachael – Presented by Quiet Lights Festival
DESCRIPTION:Quiet Lights presents Anna Mieke and Rachael Lavelle\, live from The Everyman\, Cork.\n\n\n\nAnna Mieke is an Irish musician and songwriter\, based in county Wicklow. Her debut album Idle Mind\, described as "a strikingly confident collection of songs\, full of blue sky thinking and wide open horizons" by The Irish Times\, was released independently in April 2019.\n\n\n\nInspiration for her writing stems from a colourful background of experience: learning Maori songs at school in New Zealand\, cycling through Europe\, living in Granada\, learning folk songs in Bulgaria and performing cello in the Cork-based experimental improv group\, HEX. Anna Mieke is also one-third of the singing trio Rufous Nightjar\, whose debut album is set for release next year.\n\n\n\nShe was nominated for the RT Folk Award 'Best Emerging Act' 2019 following her album release.\n\n\n\nAnna Mieke will be joined on The Everyman stage by her regular collaborators Matthew Jacobson on percussion\, Ryan Hargadon on saxophone and synth and Br an Mac Gloinn (of folk duo Ye Vagabonds) on fiddle and harmonium.\n\n\n\nAnna Mieke will be supported on the night by Dublin-born singer and composer Rachael Lavelle.\n\nRachael Lavelle has captivated audiences with a music that is both intensely visceral and darkly humorous. Merging classical and contemporary influences\, her hypnotic live performances blend electronic soundscapes with spoken word and acrobatic vocals.\n\n\n\nShe has performed at festivals including this year's SXSW showcase and has written for and collaborated with a wide range of artists such as Villagers\, Crash Ensemble and Saint Sister. She is currently finishing her debut album.
