SUMMARY:Cine Club: Double Bill
DESCRIPTION:Cine Club: Dance on Film is a regular evening of dance film screenings at Dance Cork Firkin Crane. Curated by Luke Murphy - Attic Projects\, Cork city dance artist in residence\, Cine Club is an informal\, relaxed night of short and feature-length dance films (and popcorn) from Irish and international artists.\n\nDance Stories by Laura Murphy (Ireland)\n\nTraditionally\, the worth of a dancer's career has been measured by time spent in the limelight. Yet a dancer's experience of their career extends beyond the stage. Dance Stories\, the latest iteration of Laura Murphy's multi-media portfolio project exploring the lives of eight women in dance in Ireland\, expands our understanding of dance beyond traditional structures into the personal realm.\n\nMurphy's intimate portraits challenge conventional views on dance and success\, revealing the unspoken values that are often difficult to articulate and easy to forget\, creating a living archive of untold stories of dance.\n\nThe innovative and multi-faceted Dance Stories was made in collaboration with filmmaker Pato Cassinoni\, animator Alan Early and composer Irene Buckley.\n\nRisa by Kate Weare (USA)\n\nThis film portrait looks intimately at renowned dancer and master-teacher\, Risa Steinberg\, in her New York City apartment as she reflects on her prolific and ongoing lifetime in the dance world. Risa's enormous depth of experience as a celebrated modern dancer\, master-teacher and coach to contemporary choreographers brings a power and presence to the film\, as well as her self-awareness in reckoning with her life as an artist. All artists make tough choices\, especially those who are singularly high-achieving. Risa shares an inner world in this portrait that is human\, vulnerable and profoundly honest.\n\nDirectors Kate Weare & Jack Flame Sorokin\n\nChoreographer Kate Weare\n\nCinematographer Jack Flame Sorokin\n\nGraphic Designer Sadie Bowen\n\nSound Editor Peter Bonaventure\n\nMusic Lamento (After "When I Am Laid in Earth" from Dido and Aeneas) by Henry Purcell
