SUMMARY:Ecclesiastes: John O’Brien With Derbhle Crotty And Carducci String Quartet - Cork Midsummer Festival
DESCRIPTION:Ecclesiastes is a spellbinding new work for string quartet and actor\, with text adapted by Cork composer John O'Brien from of all things the Book of Ecclesiastes.\n\n \n\nPerformed by renowned actor Derbhle Crotty and the acclaimed Carducci String Quartet\, Ecclesiastes finds a philosopher who struggles to find meaning in life\, exploring themes of wisdom\, despair\, balance\, justice\, death\, companionship and hope\, and ultimately asking what's the point?!\n\n\n\nWritten during the darkest times of Covid-19 lockdowns\, when all live music had disappeared\, Ecclesiastes embraces the black humour of our collective situation\, as well as the deep emotional longing for connection and feeling. See this dark (very dark) and funny show for the first time as it premieres at this year's Festival.\n\n \n\nCommissioned by Cork Midsummer Festival with support from The Arts Council. Supported by Cork City Council.
