SUMMARY:The Night of Ideas: 'Wine Calling'
DESCRIPTION:Cork International Film Festival\, in partnership with the French Embassy in Ireland\, Institut Fran ais and Alliance Fran aise Cork is delighted to present the Irish premiere of French documentary 'Wine Calling' (Le vin se l ve) as part of 'The Night of Ideas'.\n\n\n\nThe theme of this year's 'Night of Ideas'\, a worldwide initiative spearheaded by Institut Fran ais\, that celebrates the constant stream of ideas between countries\, cultures and generations\, is 'Being Alive'.\n\n\n\nWith The Clash on the soundtrack\, the central metaphor of 'Wine Calling' is rock: natural winemakers and their back-to-the-earth methods\, prioritising sustainability\, as rebels against the wine establishment. For the French\, winemaking is an obsessive and unpredictable love affair. While there are more than 3\,000 wine producers in France\, less than 3% of them use natural methods of wine production. This uplifting documentary follows a small community which has chosen environmentally friendly practices\, aimed at finding the natural expression of terroir and the living character of the wine.\n\n\n\nDirector Bruno Sauvard followed this new generation of winemakers over the course of a year\, from the harvest to the bottling\, revealing a global movement for organic taste and sustainability. Join us to immerse yourself in the French landscape in the country's Roussillon region\, where a countercultural wine movement is underway.\n\nHeard it Through the Grape Vine! This special screening will be followed by a panel discussion inspired by the documentary\, the natural wine movement and the 'Night of Ideas' theme 'Being Alive'\, with special guest contributors:\n\n\n	Nicolas Manuel\, Producer 'Wine Calling'\n	Colm McCan and Pascal Rossignol\, Le Caveau Wines\n	Dr. Oliver Moore\, UCC Centre for Cooperative Studies and ACR2020\n	Joe McNamee\, Food Columnist and Food Feature Writer\, the Irish Examiner\, Contributing Editor with the McKennas' Irish Food Guide\, Contributing Editor with Taste of Ireland.\n\n\nThe event will conclude with a French natural wine tasting reception to sample natural French wines featured in the film\, hosted by Le Caveau Wines\, the Irish importers of the wine featured in the documentary - an authentic taste of film and France!\n\n \n\nScreening: 18:00\, Thursday\, January 30th.\n\nThe Cellar Theatre\, The Mardyke Entertainment Complex\, Sheares Street.\n\nTickets: 12 / 10.
