DESCRIPTION:Triskel Arts Centre in association with First Fortnight and Cork Film Festival present a special screening of the documentary film Crazywise. First Fortnight is a charity that challenges mental health prejudice through arts and cultural action.\n\nTime: 7.30pm (followed by post-show discussion)\n\nThis award-winning documentary explores the transcendent and healing potential of a psychological crisis. It looks at what can be learned from people around the world who have turned their psychological crisis into a positive transformative experience. Made possible by a successful crowdfunding campaign\, the film aims to spark conversation about recovery\, nurturing social connection and finding meaning.\n\nDuring a quarter-century documenting tribal and indigenous cultures\, human rights worker\, photographer and filmmaker Phil Borges was intrigued by how differently psychosis is defined and treated in the West. Through interviews with renowned mental health professionals\, he explores the growing severity of the mental health crisis in America\, dominated by biomedical psychiatry. The film explores alternative frameworks\, such as meditation\, which focus on hope\, acceptance\, mentorship and enriching relationships.\n\n\nFirst Fortnight works to create a consistent space in the cultural calendar where citizens can be inspired through arts events and experiences to talk about mental health issues in a non-scripted manner. They utilise unscripted conversation to change people's perceptions about the ordinary experience of a mental health problem and the less ordinary experience of mental ill health. First Fortnight also runs a Centre for Creative Therapies\, offering creative therapy to those suffering from mental ill health at risk of or currently homeless.
