About Us

Headquartered in Cork, Gas Networks Ireland operates and maintains Ireland’s €2.7bn, 14,644km national gas network. Considered one of the safest and most modern networks in the world, Ireland’s gas network powers c. 30% of the country’s primary energy needs, 40% of heating and almost 50% of electricity. More than 720,000 Irish homes and businesses, including 87,000 in Cork, depend on the gas network to meet their heating, cooking, transport and energy needs. By working to replace natural gas with renewable gases, the network will play an integral role in helping meet Ireland’s climate action targets. Cork is at the centre of many initiatives, with Gas Networks Ireland progressing a biomethane project in Mitchelstown and delivering educational sustainability programmes in local schools and communities.
