Stardust: Prey for Rock & Roll Season

In this follow up to THAT’LL BE THE DAY, David Essex appears once again as the irresponsible Jim MacLaine, now in search of pop stardom. Leading his own rock 'n' roll band, 'The Stray Cats', his rise to fame is rapid and ruthless. With a number one record, the band is one of the hottest properties in the record business. Success brings wealth and a great deal of unhappiness and the group are becoming resentful of Jim hogging the limelight. The time is ripe for a change. STARDUST presents a remarkable insight into the torrid, unscrupulous world of pop, the pressures and upsets it creates and the tragic effects that result.

To celebrate the British Film Institute’s beautiful restoration of SLADE IN FLAME (which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year), Triskel Arts Centre presents a season of classic British rock and roll movies from the 1970s. Besides SLADE IN FLAME, we will also be screening the two ‘Jim MacLaine’ movies starring David Essex (THAT’LL BE THE DAY and STARDUST) and one of the decade’s most notable music-related cult movies: QUADROPHENIA, which is based on the album of the same name by The Who.
