6 Summertime Concerts at Triskel Christchurch

6 Summertime Concerts at Triskel Christchurch

Following on from the success of last year’s inaugural 6 Summertime Concerts, the Triskel Arts Centre has programmed another exciting series of lunchtime concerts. Starting on Saturday 23 June in Triskel Christchurch, the series showcases predominantly Irish artists, featuring repertoire ranging from Baroque and Classical to contemporary “Sound Bath” style works.

Cellist Aoife Burke, curator of the series, said, ‘I’m delighted to be part of this line-up of amazing performers. I’ve heard them play before and think the people of Cork will thoroughly enjoy their concerts.’ On Saturday 11 August, Burke, accompanied by Ciara Moroney on piano, will play a selection of Romantic works from the cello and piano repertoire.

Alex Petcu presents the first concert of the series, “An Exploration of Resonance”. A fusion between a musical composition and a Sound Bath, it builds on Alex's performance from this year's Quarter Block Party festival. The music will feature bell plates, gongs of various types, temple bowls, chimes and many unique instruments that Alex has constructed himself.

Pianist Billy O’Brien’s concert is on Saturday 7 July. A Waterford native, he won The Maura Dowdall Concerto Competition and The Teissier Piano Bursary from the Royal Irish Academy Music. O’Brien was recently awarded the Prix d’Excellence at the Rueil Malmaison Conservatoire, Paris, as the highest placed piano student.

Ensemble Dagda will bring Baroque music to vibrant life on Saturday 21 July. The group, which was formed in 2014 by Caitríona O’Mahony (Baroque Violin) and Norah O’Leary (Baroque Cello), includes Clodagh Kinsella (Soprano) and Kieran Finnegan (Harpsichord). O’Mahony said, ‘We came together because of our mutual love of early music and our desire to bring to life lesser-heard works of the Baroque era.’ They will present a varied programme to include works by composers Hildegard von Bingen, Claudia Francesca Rusca, Isabella Leonarda and Francesca Caccini.

On Saturday 25 August, German-English soprano Lara Marie Müller and pianist Gary Beecher, a Cork native, will present a beautiful selection of songs, from composers including Schubert, Britten and Wolf.

The last concert in the series is on Saturday 1 September and features Sabine and Cian Ducrot, a mother-and-son duo who will perform on flute and piano.
