Moving away from a 'take, make, dispose' consumption model, circular economy strategies can help the property sector transition towards a net zero economy. Buildings alone account for 37% of global greenhouse gas emissions, while construction materials lose approximately 95% of their value during demolition.
Developed by Arup and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the Circular Buildings Toolkit brings together strategies, case studies and tools to help real estate professionals apply circular economy principles when designing or managing their assets to significantly reduce carbon, eliminate waste, keep materials at their highest value and regenerate natural systems.
Arup is hosting a panel discussion with industry leaders, exploring how the toolkit provides a practical framework to enable stakeholders across the building lifecycle to optimise assets for circularity, a key step in our journey towards net zero.
The event will be an online virtual panel. The speakers include:
Adam Elman, Head of Sustainability, Google EMEA
Andrew Morlet, CEO, Ellen MacArthur Foundation
Cristina Gamboa, CEO, World Green Building Council
Paul King, MD Sustainability & Social Impact, Lendlease Europe
Pernille Berg, Science Director, BloxHUB
Philipp Horn, Head of EIB Circular Economy Division, Environmental & Natural Resources Department, European Investment Bank
Eva Hinkers, Europe Region Chair, Arup
