Bach: Cello suite No.2 in D minor BWV 1008
Aoife Nic Athlaoich (cello)
Bach wrote six cello suites for solo cello and each one displays Bach’s unique ability to compose soaring melodic lines that fall so naturally for the instrument. Each suite demands sensitivity, virtuosity, curiosity and charm from the interpreter.
Movements: Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Minuet I/II, Gigue
Bach: Chaconne for solo violin from Partita no.2 in D minor.
Lynda O’Connor (violin)
This famous work was first published in 1720 and is the final movement of Bach’s Partita no.2 for Violin in D minor. Bach’s unique understanding of the musical language of the violin and of its related playing techniques is demonstrated throughout this cherished composition. Tightly woven counterpoint and intricate harmonies abound in this masterful work.
Einaudi: Nuvole Bianche (violin and cello)
One of Einaudi’s most celebrated compositions. The title translates to ‘White Clouds’. This was released in 2004 as part of Einaudi’s album entitled: Una Mattina.
