Batman Returns: The Fantastical Cinema of Tim Burton

Tim Burton returned to the streets of Gotham City to make a sequel to his colossal box office hit BATMAN and the result is a film that many consider to be even better than the original. This installment of the Batman franchise sees the Dark Knight pitted against an array of diabolical villains - the vicious Penguin with his umbrellaful of evil tricks, the sensuous and mysterious feline temptress, Catwoman, and the scheming mega-millionaire Max Shreck.

The Fantastical Cinema of Tim Burton 

Tim Burton is a filmmaker with a unique cinematic vision in that his films often blend elements of gothic fantasy with whimsy and surrealism. Triskel Arts Centre is delighted to present Burton’s first five feature films, which will be screened over five consecutive Saturday evenings this August: there is madcap comedy with PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE, the macabre black comedy with the original BEETLEJUICE, the comic book hero adaptations BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS, and the bittersweet fairytale that is EDWARD SCISSORHANDS.
