Cork ARC Ball
The friends and family of Emma Crowley have gathered together again as a voluntary committee to present the second black tie ball in aid of Cork ARC Cancer Support House called the ‘Cork ARC Ball – Inspired by Emma’s Journey’. Due to take place at the Clayton Hotel Silver Springs on Saturday 25th March 2017, committee members promise guests a most enjoyable evening, with a drinks reception, four course meal with wine followed by headline entertainment from the Jabronis. Limited tickets are available at €90.00 each. A very limited number of tables are available – organisers say that the event will sell out.
Emma Crowley is the inspiration for the Cork ARC Ball. She has encouraged widespread vigilance amongst the public around cancer screening, early detection and treatment, mainly through her facebook blog: ‘The Big C – Emma’s Journey’ and through interviews with the media. Her mantra is: “Remember folks, know your body, any lumps, bumps or blood take note and see your GP”. Emma’s candour in how she articulates her experience with cancer has helped to highlight the care and support available free of charge at Cork ARC Cancer Support House for people with cancer and those caring for them.
The inaugural fundraising black tie ball inspired by Emma Crowley in aid of Cork ARC Cancer Support House in 2016 raised over thirty thousand Euros for the charity and already the 2017 ball looks to be a great success. Floortech Ltd return as Gold Sponsors and Induchem return as Silver Sponsors. Many of Cork’s business community are continuing to donate generous support and sponsorship to the ball, proceeds of which will ultimately support cancer patients and their families in Cork city and county.
Hilary Sullivan, Head of Fundraising / Corporate Affairs with Cork ARC Cancer Support House says, “The Cork ARC Ball inspired by Emma Crowley is very important for Cork ARC as the funding and awareness generated by Emma and the voluntary committee who organise it are helping Cork ARC meet the needs of our visitors and increases public awareness about the cancer supports available at our three centres, free of charge.”
Hilary Sullivan further added: “I would like to acknowledge the fundraising committee who are so generously donating their time in organising this significant event: Kate Shalloe, Caroline Kenefick, Ger White, Juliana Moynihan, Maria Crowley, Una Crilly, Caroline Gibson, Siobhan Riordan and Jacqui O’Mahony.”
The core of Cork ARC’s support is provided through drop-in and telephone services where people can call without an appointment and chat with a trained volunteer at their centres in Cork city, West Cork and in Cork city’s North side. Complementary therapies are available also, including counselling, touch therapies, support groups, information workshops and a wide range of group supports such as t’ai chi, meditation, pilates, yoga and art therapy. Cork ARC are also due to open a centre in Youghal in May 2017 in order to serve the needs of the communities in East Cork and West Waterford.
