Cork on Camera
The 64th edition of Cork Film Festival, Ireland’s largest film festival, takes place from November 7th - 17th and will welcome 20,000 film lovers to over 200 screenings and events in venues throughout Cork City and County.
To mark Cork Chamber’s 200th anniversary we are delighted to partner with the Cork Film Festival – which prepares to mark its 65th anniversary milestone in 2020 - to bring you the ‘Cork on Camera’ Programme on Saturday 16th November at 3.15pm in Triskel Arts Centre. (Running time of film 70 mins.)
Cork on Camera presents a programme of Cork-themed films from collections at the Irish Film Institute (IFI) Irish Film Archive. The screening will be introduced by Sunniva O’Flynn who will join us from the IFI to offer unique insights into these ‘Local Films for Local People’. The silent films will be accompanied by improvisational pianist Paul G Smyth.
This year’s programme includes ‘Silent Art’ (1958), a portrait of sculptor Séamus Murphy by Oscar-nominated documentarian Louis Marcus; ‘Travels Through Erin’ (1978), a US homage to the Aran jumper taking a trio of models around Cork on a photo shoot; ‘Dark Moon Hollow’ (1972) following an elderly gentleman as he meanders from Roches Point to Gougane Barra in a film directed by then BBC film editor Colin Hill; and tantalising rushes from ‘Car Touring’ (1965), Jim Mulkern’s uncompleted travelogue of two young couples touring the county.
Cork Chamber members are invited to enjoy this special programme of ‘Local Films for Local People’ and celebrate Cork heritage on camera, as part of Cork Chamber 200 anniversary programme.
