Cork Textiles Network Celebrate 20 Years with an Exhibition at Triskel Christchurch

Cork Textiles Network members have been promoting textiles in making and art for twenty years and to mark their anniversary, they will present a retrospective collection of work from members, both past and present. Frances McDonald, an independent advisor in art, craft and design, will open the exhibition in Triskel Christchurch on Thursday 21 June at 6pm.

Chairman Mary Palmer said, ‘This is an opportunity for us to showcase what our members do. Over the years our members have made significant inroads to bringing fibre art into education with both adults and children through the classroom, libraries, and public spaces. We are also dedicated to sharing our skills and work through workshops, seminars, masterclasses, and exhibitions which encourage members to learn from visitors as well as each other.’

One of the artists whose work forms part of the exhibition is Kim-Ling Morris, a mixed media artist who repurposes the discarded, applying textile techniques to found objects and fabrics to create her pieces. Lisa is a portrait created from lengths of old computer cables using a slash and stitch technique.

Some artists explore musical notation and notions of memory while others, such as Frances Leach, use sculptural elements in their work. In her piece, Amanda Hogan uses groundworks membrane, stitch and light to explore the ghost-like existence of abandoned houses.

The artists’ work will also feature in a book about the network, 20, which will be on sale at the launch, price €25.

The Cork Textiles Network exhibition runs from 21 June until 22 September. For more information, visit www.triskelartscentre.ie or phone 021-4272022.
