Entrepreneurial Skills Training for Older Persons

The Hincks Centre for Entrepreneurship in CIT are partnering with the Cork Education and Training Board to run a 10-week training programme in entrepreneurial skills for older persons in the CETB Heron's Wood training facilities in Carrigaline, Co. Cork. Over 65s are particularly welcome and the CETB will accept those over 55 years of age.

You are never too old to learn and to use entrepreneurial skills. Maybe you want to understand modern business better? Have you a hobby or a skill that you would like to turn into a business opportunity. Perhaps you just want to know how people come up with a business idea and how do they know if it is a good idea and worth pursuing? Maybe you already have some ideas and want to explore them further? The CETB in conjunction with CIT are inviting older persons to take part in Entrepreneurial Skills Training. This training is open to all older persons and over 65s are particularly welcome.

Classes will take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.  No prior experience is necessary and it is not necessary to start a business to take this course. The idea is to explore the entrepreneurial skills you already have and learn a few more.   Places for this can be booked directly at 086 8238457 or sign up by email with frances.mcinerney@corketb.ie

Over 10 weeks, 2 afternoons a week, the training will cover an entrepreneurial process. It begins with an introduction to entrepreneurship which assumes no prior knowledge. It outlines a profile of older entrepreneurs and maps your skills to explore what entrepreneurial skills you already have. The ones you don’t have can be learnt or the resources may be found! Next, idea generation will be covered. How do you come up with a business idea? How do you progress that idea and develop a business plan. How do you market your idea and what about funding? It will provide the opportunity to understand social and business networking.  The training will incorporate the opportunity to participate in a social/business project or activity and offer the opportunity to work with teams and groups.

This training will form part of a CIT PhD called  Smart Ageing and Renewal through Entrepreneurial Skills Training which explores the benefits of entrepreneurial skills for those over 65 years of age and there is no requirement to set up a business at the end of the training.
