Fuelling Business - Opportunity in Crisis

Fuelling Business - Opportunity in Crisis

The Sustainable Cork Programme (SCP) webinar series is designed to set a vision for a more sustainable and resilient Cork, empowered by a thriving business community.

In an unprecedented energy and inflation crisis businesses have seen significant increases in energy bills, typically more than three or four times relative to 2021. These increases are putting huge pressure on businesses, but they also have the potential to create new opportunities. Finding new and better energy choices is rising up the agenda – businesses have never been more compelled to seek energy efficiencies and to make adjustments to business models.

This session will practically elaborate on how this energy crisis should not go to waste and examine how businesses can seek to find opportunity in crisis and reduce their carbon footprint while making energy cost savings. Together, industry and commercial sectors account for 30.4% of Ireland’s energy demand in 2021, increasing by 2.9% from 2020 (SEAI). A dramatic increase in sustainable energy actions can go towards reversing these trends, staying within our carbon budgets and reducing costs.

Speakers:
Harry O’ Farrell, Chief Commercial Officer at ActionZero, Chair at Energy Cork - ActionZero supports organisations to realise their climate action goals – with the EscoPod, their patented high temperature high efficiency heat pump technology, they enable organisations in many sectors to decarbonise heat, eliminate fossil fuels and achieve carbon neutrality. Harry has worked on delivering Cork's Energy Master Plan, which sets out ambitious decarbonisation targets for the entire Cork region by 2030, among them, reducing energy use by 35% and increasing the renewables share by 53%.

Conor Molloy, Energy Advisor, Trainer & Auditor, AEMS (Authentic Energy Management Services) - AEMS are independent energy advisors, trainers and auditors. Conor has trained over 100 ESOS Lead Assessors in Transport Energy Auditing, led the publication of EN 16247-4 Europe’s transport energy audit standard and contributed to ISO50004. Since 2005 he has been helping businesses save fuel and manage their energy use for profit and reduce emissions.

Seán Sirr, Senior Consultant Energy and Sustainability, EM3 - EM3 is a Global Innovative Energy Solutions Energy Consultancy which provides expert support and consultancy services in industrial energy management. EM3 enable industrial energy users take control of their energy spend through using data, expertise and experience to produce energy metrics to monitor and manage energy. Seán has over 20 years’ experience in engineering project delivery with over 10 years’ experience specifically in Energy Management.

Our expert speakers will share strategies and case studies focused on moving towards the delivery of net-zero business operations.
