Give up your Seat For your Feet
World Heart Day 2018 is on Saturday 29th September and at the Irish Heart Foundation we are challenging you and your colleagues to ‘Give up your Seat for your Feet,’ and take a step towards better heart health.
#chairscankill
Research has shown that prolonged periods of sitting pose a significant risk to your health, even if you exercise. Sedentary behaviour is a known risk factor for many health problems and it also increases your risk of fatal heart conditions by up to 64 Warren, T., 2010. Sedentary Behaviors Increase Risk of Cardiovascular Disease Mortality in Men. Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 42.5, 879-885. Link: https://bit.ly/2O0DYew).
More than one in three people in Ireland are unaware that sitting down for long periods of time can increase their risk of heart disease and stroke and Irish people spend on average 7.3 hours a day sitting down, increasing to 8.9 hours a day for students and 8.4 hours a day for young people aged 15-24. The Irish Heart Foundation will be running a national health promotion campaign throughout September to encourage people to sit less and we would like to invite you to be part of the movement.
By getting involved with our campaign your company can do something meaningful this September, while taking positive steps toward a healthier heart for all.
By planning an event in your workplace or organising a team challenge on behalf of the Irish Heart Foundation, you can help raise much needed funds and engage your staff in a fun activity that has a lasting impact.
So, why not get a group together and start planning now?
