Green Careers and Skills: Building Sustainable Futures

Green Careers and Skills: Building Sustainable Futures

The Sustainable Cork Programme (SCP) is designed to set a vision for a more sustainable and resilient Cork, empowered by a thriving business community.

As SDG Champions (2024-2025), designated by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, we continue our active commitment to embedding the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across our organisation. This event directly advances SDG 4 Quality Education, SDG 8 Decent Work and Economy Growth and SDG 13 Climate Action by exploring the workforce skills needed to power the green transition, and how businesses and individuals can prepare for the careers of the future.

While Ireland accelerates towards a net-zero and circular economy, the demand for sustainability knowledge, green skills and renewable energy expertise is rapidly growing. From recruitment and training to organisational culture and higher education, collaboration across sectors will be key to meeting these demands and creating meaningful career pathways in Cork and beyond.

Why you should attend:

- Explore Green Careers: Learn about the changing demands in recruitment and the types of roles that are defining the future of work in sustainability.
- Driving the Energy Transition: Understand the specific skills and expertise driving growth in Ireland’s renewable energy sector, and how this industry is shaping career opportunities.
- Upskilling for the Future: Explore how education, training and professional development are preparing individuals and organisations with the knowledge and capabilities needed for a sustainable future.

Speakers:
Stephen Lehane, Senior Sustainability Consultant, CPL

Stephen focuses on recruitment within the areas of sustainability, environmental and renewable energy, partnering with organisations across a wide range of sectors, including food and manufacturing, pharma, and renewable energy. He has supported companies in building teams for CSRD and ESG strategy and reporting, as well as recruiting talent in Environmental Health & Safety and Renewable Engineering, from entry to C suite level.

Christina Fox, Vice President of Business Support, Statkraft Ireland

She leads a high-performing team across HR, communications, public affairs, office and facility management and sustainability. Based in Cork, Christina plays a central role in shaping the employee experience, strengthening external partnerships, and driving strategic initiatives aligned with Statkraft’s mission to advance renewable energy in Ireland. Since Statkraft’s market entry in 2018, the Irish business has more than tripled its workforce and Christina has been instrumental in this growth, leading many of the foundational efforts to build and scale the team, establish core business support functions, and embed a strong organisational culture. With over a decade of experience in HR and more than seven years in the renewables industry, Christina brings deep expertise in the skills required for her sector.
