Greening Our City: Considering Our Biodiversity in Cork City – Flora and Fauna
Cork Chamber has teamed up with SHEP Earth Aware, Green Spaces for Health, Cork Healthy Cities and the Environmental Research Institute, UCC for this informative webinar series to showcase examples from other countries and discuss the many ways we can make Cork a greener city!
This session will outline the status quo with regard to biodiversity in Cork City – both the current state of it and also the possibility of creating spaces within the city for biodiversity niches. The speakers will outline realistic measures needed in order to make it more feasible, whether there are examples in other cities of where this has been successful and refer to the research areas they are currently progressing.
Speakers will include Dr. Eoin Lettice and Dr. Paul Holloway.
Eoin is a lecturer in plant science at the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Science (BEES) and the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) at University College Cork. Eoin is Co-PI on the "UCC Open Arboretum Project" and the SFI-funded "Tree Explorers" project which make use of the newly-accredited UCC Arboretum for research, teaching and outreach. Eoin is a vocal advocate for urban trees.
Paul joined University College Cork in 2017 as a lecturer in Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Ecology, in the Department of Geography and the Environmental Research Institute (ERI). Paul is also a Co-Investigator on two EU funded INTEREG projects, ECHOES and COAST.
