Guests Of The Nation - Cork Midsummer Festival
Corcadorca presents a new theatre production inspired by Frank O’Connor’s seminal short story, Guests of the Nation, staged in and around Cork Opera House & Triskel Arts Centre, happening as part of Cork Midsummer Festival from June 18–25.
Featuring a professional and community cast, this site-specific production is a creative collaboration between leading Irish artists Kevin Barry (writer), Pat Kiernan (director), and Mel Mercier (composer/sound designer). Guests of the Nation is a fresh reflection on what it means to be Irish in 2022, an investigation of our notions of patriotism, and a timely interrogation of war. “We’re using the themes of the original story, which are fresh and recurring and eternal, to try and make a piece of work that speaks to the present moment,” says Kevin Barry.
Corcadorca is one of Ireland’s leading producers of off-site theatre and is thrilled to be premiering this exciting new theatre work as part of Cork Midsummer Festival which is marking its 30th anniversary.
Led by a trio of acclaimed collaborators, Kevin Barry is one of Ireland’s most celebrated authors, Pat Kiernan is founder and Artistic Director of Corcadorca, and Mel Mercier is a Tony-nominated and multi-award winning composer/sound designer, Guests of the Nation is both a celebration of our multicultural modern society and an examination of conflict and nationalism.
