Overview of Horizon 2020 European Financial supports for disruptive innovation based companies

Horizon 2020 now supports top-class innovators, entrepreneurs, small companies and scientists with funding opportunities and acceleration services. The main focus of the European Horizon 2020 funding is on radical, market-creating innovations to improve productivity and international competitiveness and generate new jobs and higher standards of living. Learn more about the available funding and how to leverage it successfully.
This presentation will target opportunities for SMEs in Europe. Primary focus is to demonstrate the benefits of partaking in the SME Instrument in particular and its appropriateness to SME needs in particular.
There are two schemes in Horizon 2020 that are of direct relevance to industry, in particular SMEs. This presentation will seek to explain these two schemes, (1) The SME Instrument and (2) Fast Track to Innovation.

Sean Burke & Jill Leonard of Enterprise Ireland's Horizon 2020 team
Sean Burke
Sean is Ireland's National Delegate and Contact Point for two programs in Horizon 2020, Innovation in SMEs and Access to Risk Finance. Sean has 22 years of industrial experience in electronics hardware and software design and project management to bring to his current role.
Prior to taking on his present role, Sean was the National Delegate for a program called “Research for the Benefit of SMEs” in Framework Program 7. He previously worked in a Research Institute, CSRC based in the University of Limerick, as a Senior Research Engineer, as well as working also for both an Irish Start-up company (Intest Ltd, now known as Schaffner Intepro) and for a Multinational Corporation (Wang Laboratories) as well as a medical devices design and manufacturing company.
Sean's previous experience as a Delegate and Contact Point in FP7, as a researcher in embedded systems and chip design, as an electronics lead designer for both start-up companies and established multinationals and as a technology transfer Engineer in new and emerging network technologies gives him a breadth of experience to draw on and gives a good founding in active helps for SMEs in their endeavors in Horizon 2020.
Jill Leonard
Jill is Ireland's National Contact Point in Horizon 2020 for Innovation in SMEs. Jill’s background is in Business and Organisation Development and she has worked with many successful Irish innovative companies in Phase 1 and 2 of the SME Instrument.
In the Framework Programme 7, Jill was the Legal and Financial National Contact Point and gained an in-depth knowledge of EU Funding, Rules of Participation and Grant Management Procedures.
Prior to her present role, Jill was as a Strategic Project Manager in many key areas within Enterprise Ireland including Human Resource Development, Change Management, Operations Management and Quality Systems.
