I Fall Down: A Restoration Comedy Gina Moxley
”Fearlessly ambitious, both scrappily punk and technically proficient… I Fall Down is fun, funny and unapologetically feminist.“
— Business Post
”Outrageous comedy.“
— The Irish Times
In I Fall Down, Gina Moxley, a former art student, begins by referring to what was her introductory bible to art history - The Story of Art - in which not a single female artist was mentioned. Enraged by that erasure and inspired by Florence Syndrome, a malady where tourists are so overwhelmed by seeing classical masterpieces, they fall into a psychotic state, Moxley confronts classical female statuary head on. The omission of their genitalia propels her on a wild mission to set the record straight.
This immersive, punk and fearlessly feminist show begins with a lecture, segues into an operatic promenade, travels to Florence courtesy of contemporary dance, video and sound installations and finally arrives at a cheeky hands-on clay modelling workshop. A living example of Joseph Beuys' radical dictum: 'Everyone is an artist'. Possibly the best fun you can have getting your hands dirty.
A 'restoration comedy' so to speak.
I Fall Down is a critical and audience hit, appealing to audiences of all genders and across a huge age range from sixteen to ninety-six.
Originally staged across multiple spaces at the Crawford Art Gallery for the Cork Midsummer Festival and restaged at Trinity College Dublin for the Dublin Theatre Festival.
