Mercy Hospital Foundation Golf Classic

The ever popular Mercy Hospital Foundation Golf Classic is set to take place in Fota Island Golf Club on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th of April in aid of the Mercy Cancer CARE Centre, and the last few tee times available are up for the taking.

The event format will see over 65 teams tee off over the two days in aid of this worthy cause. Teams consist of four players and the cost per team is €425 which includes access to the driving range, green fees and a delicious meal in the Fota Island Golf Clubhouse following your round. If you or your company can’t participate but want to support the Golf Classic, you can be part of the day by sponsoring a tee for €100.

Funds raised will go directly toward the building of the Mercy Cancer CARE Centre next to the Hospital. More than bricks and mortar, the Mercy Cancer CARE Centre is a community funded cancer centre that will provide a quiet, safe place for patients and families to help them deal with their cancer diagnosis or to receive ongoing support during their cancer journey, through one-to-one support, peer-group sessions, and bereavement counselling in a nonclinical and relaxed environment.

Encouraging golfers to register for the final few tee times remaining, volunteer organiser and founder of the annual Golf Classic, Jack French said “By participating each team will be playing their part in the fight against cancer, ensuring that patients receive the best care and support possible during their cancer journey at The Mercy Hospital. As an added incentive to golfers, leading motor retailers Johnson & Perrott Motor Group, Mahon Point, are once again associated with the popular Golf Classic; and will provide a brand new car to any player lucky enough to land a Hole-in-One.”

Jack’s fellow volunteer organiser, Brian Dunphy, who is a Mercy Board member, said “I have been fundraising for The Mercy Hospital since 1979, and the Mercy Cancer CARE Centre is the most exciting project I’ve seen so far. I enjoy raising funds for the Mercy as it is a great local institution and one where I can see first-hand the impact of the funds raised on the lives of those using the services of the Mercy.”

Micheál Sheridan, CEO at the Mercy University Hospital Foundation said “For the one in three of people who will be diagnosed with cancer in our lives, at the Mercy, we want to be sure that that news is told in the most supportive way possible. We are building a specialised Cancer Centre next to the Hospital that will provide a quiet safe place for patients and their family to help deal with bad news; and this is only possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of our supporters and donors like the golfers who participate in our annual Golf Classic. In particular, we would like to thank volunteer organisers Jack French and Brian Dunphy, who tirelessly organise the popular event each year; and thanks must also go to the event sponsors IPB Insurance and MyMortgages.ie.”
