Stephen King said, “Books are a uniquely portable magic.” Books contain worlds that we can lose ourselves in, lessons to inspire us and characters to teach us. But how do they come to be? How does an author go from an idea in their head to having a book on a library or bookshop shelf? How does a bookseller choose which books to stock from the thousands books published every year? What exactly does a librarian do? How does a literary festival organiser organise a festival of literature? How do publishers choose what gets published … and what doesn’t?
