Night Of The Living Dead: The Early Films of George A. Romero
It is dusk. Barbara and her brother Johnny drive into the Willard cemetery to place a wreath on their father's grave. A dishevelled stranger approaches and, with no provocation, attacks them. Leaving Johnny lying unconscious, Barbara flees in terror to a nearby farmhouse with her attacker following. So begins the seminal zombie movie NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, a film that is nearly 60 years old and yet still retains its gritty power to shock and unnerve.
This special presentation by DMP Cinema features a high-quality scan of an authentic American 35mm theatrical print, preserving the raw texture and atmosphere of the film as it was originally experienced in cinemas.

The Early Films of George A. Romero
Along with directors such as Tobe Hooper, Wes Craven, David Cronenberg and John Carpenter, the work of George A. Romero revolutionised the horror film genre throughout the seventies and eighties. His theatrical debut feature, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, was the one that started it all: shot in black and white on a low budget in Pennsylvania, this raw burst of energy was a shock to the system when it was released in 1968 and the film contains much of its power to this day. While its gore scenes are still effective, it is the film’s social and political subtext that really resonate all these years later.
Triskel Arts Centre is delighted to be screening NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD as well as two other early films by Romero: SEASON OF THE WITCH from 1972 follows a bored suburban housewife who decides to dabble in the occult, while THE CRAZIES from 1973 examines what happens when a government plane carrying a biological warfare virus crashes near a small American town.
