November Business Breakfast Live featuring Ann Doherty, Chief Executive of Cork City Council

November Business Breakfast Live featuring Ann Doherty, Chief Executive of Cork City Council

Join Ann Doherty, Chief Executive of Cork City Council who will speak to members on the current and future direction of our City.

Cork is beset with challenges such as the pandemic and Brexit but having recently grown to over 210,000 people and with a population set to increase to over 350,000 by 2040 our City region remains uniquely positioned to define competitiveness for years to come.

In September 2014, Ann was appointed Chief Executive of Cork City Council where she is responsible for the strategic leadership and successful direction of an organisation that employs over 1500 staff, has an annual spend of €500 million and is the city’s only organisation, as provided for in law, that represents, leads and serves the communities of Cork City.

During her tenure as Chief Executive over the past 6 years and as an experienced business leader with over 25 years in senior management roles in Ireland and the UK, she has led and implemented considerable transformational change and operational success in large public sector organisations, most recently and notably the boundary extension of Cork City in May 2019, a pivotal moment in the City’s history.

As a key influencer and decision-maker at regional, national and international levels, Ann has a wealth of stakeholder engagement experience across the public and the private sector which is leveraged for the economic growth benefit of Cork City, in line with the Councils statutory mandate for economic development.

Ann’s early career, spanning both healthcare  and business disciplines witnessed a diverse range of clinical management and general manger roles, ranging from Kings College Hospital London to General Manager of Cork University Hospitals in 2004. Later that year, saw Ann being appointed to National Director of the newly established HSE working in a range of portfolios over the following 10 years  including the National Hospitals Office, the National Cancer Control Programme culminating in her appointment as the CEO of UL Hospitals Group, one of the first hospital groups to be established in Ireland, where she has  managed multi-billion euro annual budgets and  has had responsibility for the implementation of highly complex governance models.

Ann plays a critical role in advancing the physical, economic social and cultural life of the City, serving as Director on a number of Boards including the Crawford Art Gallery, Marymount University Hospital & Hospice, Visit Cork, Cork University Hospital Charity and UCC Student Facilities & Services.  She also plays an active role influencing policy at a national level by working collaboratively with the local government’s sectoral associations, the CCMA and the LGMA and the Cork Development Forum locally. Ann holds an MBA and is a Chartered Director.

It is time to Reimagine Cork.

Why not stick around for a chat! Members will have the opportunity to meet and network with their 'virtual breakfast table' for the final 15 minutes of this online event.
