Practical Steps to Write More Effectively

Practical Steps to Write More Effectively

Michael Furminger is a UK qualified Barrister currently transitioning to the Irish Bar. Michael has more than thirty years of experience and training in writing for professional purposes. Michael was an elected City Councillor in the UK and was called to the Bar in 1991. Over the years since then, Michael has developed his written communication skills in politics, legal practice and, more recently, in business consultancy.

What will you learn?

In this short workshop, Michael will provide intensely practical tips based on his insight and experience. We all have to communicate in writing at some point - despite the availability, affordability and convenience of oral communication facilitated by modern technology.
There is a huge variety in written communication – from the very formal and important to the very casual and unimportant – but there are skills and techniques relevant to all forms of writing.
This Workshop is intended for anyone seeking to improve their ability to communicate in writing more effectively.
After briefly establishing a context for written communication – including its advantages and disadvantages, its different purposes and forms – the Workshop will focus on practical tools, techniques and tips. The emphasis will not be on rules and conventions as such (of grammar or otherwise) but strictly on the function of communication.
