Spotlight Chamber Music Series – I

To open the Spotlight Chamber Music Series, an ensemble of some of Ireland’s most distinguished and engaging musicians will present a varied programme of works for clarinet and strings.
 
Takemitsu’s charming arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s October or Autumn Song movement from his twelve-movement work The Seasons for solo piano opens the concert. This is followed by between for Clarinet and Cello by Northern Irish composer Deirdre McKay, written in 2006 and based on the following couplet from an untitled poem by Samuel Beckett:
 
“my way is in the sand flowing
between the shingle and the dune”
 
The programme concludes with one of Johannes Brahms’ final works, his profound and deeply moving Clarinet Quintet.
