Stupid August

A silent historical fantasy, which tells the story of an amnesiac clown exiled to 1960s Ireland, whose buried memories slowly resurface, forcing him to confront the ghosts of the past. Stupid August utilizes elements of fact and conjecture and mixes them in a hybrid of expressionism, surrealism and pantomime. Drawing on unsettling historical events — including the arrival of Nazi war criminals in Ireland, the film explores the dangers of burying collective histories.
