Sustainable Cork Programme: Climate Action - From Global to Local

Sustainable Cork Programme: Climate Action - From Global to Local

In this session we will bridge the gap between global commitments and targets emerging from COP26 and the Climate Action Plan and will share what this means locally, on the ground and in your business.

COP26 has rightly captured attention on climate action against a backdrop of global extremes and a “code red for humanity” warning. This globally co-ordinated climate response, aims for alignment to reach net zero by 2050 and to keep global warming below an increase of 1.5 degrees Celsius to prevent putting both people and planet at further risk.

At home, Ireland has enshrined its climate goals in law. This commits us to a 51% reduction in emissions by 2030. In addition, the Climate Action Plan and first round of sectoral carbon budgets r
ecently published by Climate Change Advisory Council (CCAC) provide a framework but “transformative change which is led by all of Government on a sustained basis is urgently required.”

Although many of the changes will take time to show dividends, it’s recognised that now is the time to put policies and supports in place that will help people, communities and businesses that will be impacted by the significant changes we need to make to how we live, work and travel.

Nevermore have partnerships and collective action across government, businesses and civil society been so essential. Join us to help understand and identify how you may respond to this call to action in your business.

Speakers include:

Shane O’Reilly, Director, KPMG Sustainable Futures, KPMG

David Joyce, Director of Services, Operations Directorate, Cork City Council

Paul Murphy, Climate Action Solutions Lead, Climeaction - a Leading Edge Group company
