Sustainable Cork Programme: Transforming Europe - Exploring the EU Green Deal

This webinar titled 'Transforming Europe - Exploring the EU Green Deal' – through the lens of economy, environment and community explores the EU Green Deal and what this means for us as individuals and as businesses.

The European Green Deal is a plan to make the EU's economy sustainable by turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities, and making the transition just and inclusive for all.

Climate action, economic resilience and social justice are at the heart of Europe's recovery, and while there are challenges, these are surpassed by the benefits that a climate centric future strategy holds for Europe and for us all. One year into the EU Green Deal, we see that there is real opportunity and scope to address Cork’s business community and stakeholders on its ambition. We recognise that not only does the Green Deal mark a shift in the European project, but it is also the context in which resilient and sustainable economies and societies will be created and recovery will take place.

You will hear from expert speakers, discussing the EU Green Deal, what this means at European, national and local level, the opportunities, our role in combatting environmental and biodiversity decline, and the importance of a Just Transition.

SPEAKERS:

Karen Ciesielski is CEO of the Irish Environmental Network, an umbrella network that works to support environmental NGOs who carry out their work through practical conservation work, campaigning, lobbying and raising public awareness of environmental and conservation needs.

Quentin Dupriez is a policy officer in the Strategy and Economic Assessment unit of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Climate Action. He specialises on macro-economic and investment-related aspects of climate mitigation policy and State aid issues. 

Garret Farrelly, Partner and Head of the Energy and Infrastructure Group and Projects Group in Matheson. He advises on all aspects of projects and project financing, from PPPs to privately-financed electricity, oil, and gas field developments and privatisations as well as electricity, gas and telecommunications network infrastructure.
