The Hidden and Remarkable Bird Life of Cork Harbour

The Hidden and Remarkable Bird Life of Cork Harbour

Cork Harbour is home to a great diversity of wildfowl, shorebirds, seabirds, raptors and many other species.

In The Port of Cork Collection, birds can be seen only from a distance, Professor John Quinn will shed light on the remarkable lives that many of these species’ lead, focusing on where they come from, how they get here, and what they do when they arrive. He will also talk about how their behaviour is far more sophisticated and complicated than most of us realise, all of which arises because of their need to survive and reproduce.

Professor Quinn will also highlight some of the best areas to observe birds in the Harbour and will argue that fostering an interest in birds has the potential to lead to a lifelong passion that can make you view the world differently. This talk is a must for people who want to know all there is to know about the diverse bird life of Cork Harbour.

John Quinn is Professor in Zoology at UCC. He has had a lifelong interest in birds and has studied their behaviour and ecology in many parts of the world. He has worked with The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, The Irish Wildbird Conservancy, and the University of Oxford.
