The Legend of Maula Jatt: Basant Festival
From times untold where legends are written in soil with blood, a hero is born. Maula Jatt, a fierce prizefighter with a tortured past seeks vengeance against his arch nemesis Noori Natt, the most feared warrior in the land of Punjab.
Basant is one of the most celebrated festivals in the Indian Subcontinent, associated with spring and the colour yellow. While Basant holds religious significance in Hinduism, marking the arrival of spring, it has become popular across all cultures. Central to celebrations is kite flying. In 2022, artist Cork-based artists Amna Walayat founded Basant Festival Cork in Carrigaline Community Park and it has since become an annual event. This year, the Festival will take place over 3 days (27-29 June) and venues in Cork City and County. Triskel Arts Centre is delighted to work with Basant to present a series of special public screenings of The Legend of Maula Jatt.
