One of Neil Simon’s most famous and best loved plays, The Odd Couple, is so good he wrote it three times: a version for two men, made famous by those wonderful film performances from Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, a version for a man and a woman, and version for two women. This summer, rather than Felix and Oscar, meet Florence and Olive.
It’s a warm sticky July evening in New York’s Upper West Side. Olive is hosting the girls for their weekly game of Trivial Pursuit in her usual laid-back style, when highly strung and house proud Florence appears, freshly split from her husband, with nowhere to go.
The Odd Couple is the epitome of quick-witted, laugh-a-minute New York humour, and TV shows like Friends owe a huge amount to Neil Simon’s comic genius. This production is a fresh look at a familiar set up, and, as fans of the original might expect, sparks fly as Florence and Olive struggle to be themselves whilst living with each other!
