79 mins - Japan 2021 - Subtitles - Documentary - Dir: Toshimichi Saito
Featuring: Ferran Adrià, Matt Goulding and Kat Odell
We are delighted to once again be hosting the Japanese Film Festival (hyperlink www.jff.ie) here at Triskel. It is always a great opportunity to watch memorable films and learn something new about a different culture. This year is no different. Two films will be screened on Thursday 7th April while The Gate cinema will also be hosting some screenings. The Japanese Film Festival is co-organised by the Embassy of Japan, access>CINEMA and the Ireland Japan Association.
Japan boasts no shortage of extraordinary food, and this sumptuous documentary explores the techniques and philosophies of four of the country’s most celebrated chefs. Takemasa Shinohara runs Ginza Shinohara - a kaiseki (traditional, multi-course meal) eatery in the heart of Tokyo. A subway journey away, Été is a single-table restaurant where chef Shoji Natsuko (recently voted Asia’s best female chef) prepares gorgeous cakes and breads for lucky guests. Yosuke Suga was a protegé of culinary legend Joel Robuchon and has now brought the finest French dining to Tokyo as head chef at Sugalabo. Finally, Takaaki Sugita of Nihombashi-kakigaracho Sugita guides viewers through the demanding work and commitment that’s required to make some of the world’s best sushi.
This mouth-watering documentary is a must for foodies everywhere, providing a rare look inside some of Tokyo’s most exclusive and acclaimed restaurants.
