Under Your Skin by Evgeniya Martirosyan opens at Triskel Gallery Space at 6pm on Thursday 7 November. Valerie Byrne, Director of the National Sculpture Factory, will be the guest speaker. The exhibition runs until 20 December.
Under Your Skin explores the transformative potential of repeated actions and the evocative power of discarded materials. Using bicycle tyres as the basis for her work, Martirosyan cuts, weaves and knots the reclaimed rubber into large scale modular forms. Her engagement with the materials is purposely physical and tactile in its nature.
Gradually invading the gallery space, the final installation is suggestive of organic growth and mutation. Smells and sounds are used to activate viewer?s senses, creating an immersive environment. The work?s emotional weight is carried by its visual density, offering an intense visceral experience.
