Women’s Mini Marathon in aid of Mercy University Hospital Foundation
On Sunday 17th, September, women from all over Cork will come out in force to participate in the ever popular Women’s Mini Marathon. This year, one group of women in particular has pledged to support others like them, as members from Network Ireland Cork join Cork’s biggest team in the race against cancer by supporting the Mercy University Hospital Foundation’s Cancer Appeal.
The Mini Marathon, which this year has a new, shorter 5km route, is considered by many as the feelgood event of the year, with scores of women walking, jogging and running under the #TeamMercy banner. For those who support the Mercy University Hospital Foundation, the atmosphere is always special, with people participating in support of loved ones undergoing treatment; in memory of family or friends no longer with them; or simply to show their support and gratitude to the staff of the Mercy University Hospital for the care they show their patients and their families.
Funds raised will help those who will go through the tough journey that cancer presents over the coming years, by funding key services and advancements in the treatment of and research into many cancers, and in particular the new Mercy Cancer CARE Centre, due for completion by the end of this year.
Speaking about the Mercy Cancer CARE Centre, Louise O’Brien, Community Fundraiser with the Mercy University Hospital Foundation said “The long awaited Mercy Cancer CARE Centre is close to completion; and we could not have reached this point without those who have joined #TeamMercy in the Mini Marathon over the last 14 years; and to them we are forever grateful. The Cancer CARE Centre will provide a quiet and safe place for patients and their families to access an increasingly necessary range of services to support those affected both directly and indirectly by a cancer diagnosis.”
Whether you want to walk or run with #TeamMercy, you will be making a real difference. Sign up now and you will receive your Mercy t-shirt ahead of the event. As always, #TeamMercy will host a fun after-party at The Old Oak with complimentary finger food and cocktails to celebrate and ease those tired muscles!
