Helium Arts is seeking a new member of the board of directors with a focus on finance expertise to fulfil the office of Treasurer. This board member will have senior business management and leadership expertise in finance to support organisational development and growth. The voluntary position involves playing an active role in the organisation’s governance, strategic direction, oversight of financial control and financial sustainability while providing leadership on all matters relating to finance.
These activities will be undertaken in addition to general board membership responsibilities as outlined in Helium Arts’ Board Member Agreement document. All Helium Arts board members should possess a belief in the transformative nature and importance of the arts in society. In addition, board members are asked to offer support in networking, donor-development and corporate engagement in whatever capacity possible. This is a voluntary position.
Person specification
The successful candidate will have professional experience and a successful track record of strategic leadership in the area of finance.
Essential Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities:

Minimum ten years’ professional experience in finance, either with a non-profit organisation, as a consultant with an agency, and/or in house with a for-profit company.

Governance skills and the ability to understand complex organisational issues and risk quickly.

Political astuteness – ability to grasp relevant issues underpinned by an understanding of developing partnerships and building relationships with other organisations.

An enquiring mind, with the confidence to challenge constructively.

Recognition of the importance of supporting collective decisions.

Strong communication and listening skills.

Able to manage a wide variety of situations in a meeting and ensure that the outcomes are in the best interest of the organisation.

Time requirement
The time requirement of this role is estimated at about 8 working days per year. This includes four 2-hour board meetings per year, two meetings in Dublin and two meetings online (with additional time required to read papers and prepare in advance of each meeting), plus four one hour Finance and Audit Committee Meetings (online)and attendance at a minimum of two events per year.
