Apple’s 45+ Years in Cork Underscore Its Transformational Role in the Region’s Economic Landscape
Cork Chamber, the voice of business in Cork, today acknowledged the transformational contribution that Apple has made to the economic landscape of the region and to Ireland over more than 45 years, and congratulated Apple on the official opening of the new Hollyhill 5 building by Taoiseach Micheál Martin today. What began in 1980 with just 135 employees has since grown into a workforce of over 6,000 at the company’s Hollyhill campus, now Apple’s European headquarters and a key driver of Cork’s status as a globally competitive location for investment.
Cork Chamber President Rob Horgan, attending today’s celebration alongside CEO Conor Healy, said, “Apple’s presence in Cork stands as one of the defining economic success stories of our region. Their long-term commitment has played a central role in shaping Cork’s evolution into an internationally recognised hub for innovation and high-value employment. The company’s sustained growth has supported a thriving ecosystem of local suppliers, service providers and talent that continues to benefit the wider region and the national economy. Today’s official opening of the state-of-the-art Hollyhill 5 facility, which can accommodate 1,300 employees, alongside a new Dublin office, marks another important milestone in Apple’s growth.”
Cork Chamber CEO Conor Healy added, “Across more than four decades, Apple has demonstrated confidence in Cork through continuous reinvestment, expansion and innovation. Their success reflects the strength of the regional talent pool and the impact of an effective investment framework, supported in no small part by the strategic work of IDA Ireland. Apple’s contribution reaches far beyond its own campus, reinforcing Cork’s reputation globally and underpinning the growth of a dynamic business environment. We congratulate Apple’s senior management and wider team on this milestone and look forward to building on this legacy of innovation and regional growth.”
