Cork Chamber appointed Sustainable Development Goal Ambassador by Government
Cork Chamber, the voice of business in Cork, has been appointed a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Ambassador by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment. Cork Chamber takes on the role following a successful term as SDG Champion for 2024 to 2025.
Conor Healy, Cork Chamber CEO, welcomed the appointment: “Sustainability is at the core of all activities undertaken by Cork Chamber, guiding our member services, advocacy efforts and internal operations. We are delighted to accept the appointment as SDG Ambassador. As a former SDG Champion, this new role represents an important recognition of the work done to date, within Cork Chamber and across Cork’s business community more broadly, to embed sustainable practices into all initiatives and policies. It also represents a mandate to continue this work, supporting the business community in delivering impactful progress on sustainability.
“We recently launched a comprehensive Sustainability Strategy for 2025 to 2028, underlining our ongoing commitment to delivering tangible impact for members when it comes to a sustainable, future-proof economy. As an organisation, we believe this work is simply the right thing to do. With more than 1,200 member businesses employing over 130,000 people across the region, we are also very mindful of the responsibility we carry to support businesses in delivering meaningful, practical progress on sustainability.”
Dr Alicia Mateos-Cárdenas, REEValue and Sustainability Lead at Cork Chamber, said, “Sustainable practices have become increasingly important for businesses in recent years. At Cork Chamber, we prioritise collaboration, engagement and innovation to support businesses on their sustainability journeys.
“With initiatives across offshore renewable energy, biodiversity, emissions reduction and social sustainability, Cork Chamber partners with a broad range of local stakeholders to realise our shared vision for a more sustainable future. We are proud to play a part in charting a course for Cork’s future as a sustainable, resilient and inclusive economy and region.”
As an SDG Ambassador, Cork Chamber will continue to promote and progress the SDGs, acting as an example of good practice in SDG integration and sharing learnings with others. SDG Ambassadors also become part of the wider network of SDG Ambassadors and Champions, enabling collaboration with current and former Champions to share experience and ideas.
