Cork Chamber welcomes progress on delivery of Cork to Limerick N/M20
Cork Chamber, the voice of business in Cork, welcomes the announcement that the Cork to Limerick N/M20 is to be upgraded to a full motorway, improving travel times between the two cities by an estimated 30 minutes. The announcement represents a significant milestone in the development of multimodal connectivity between the two largest and growing cities in Ireland’s southern region.
Cork Chamber CEO Conor Healy said “The confirmation that the N20 connecting Cork and Limerick will be upgraded to a full motorway in the form of the M20 is a welcome development for both Cork and Limerick. The reduced travel time between Ireland’s second and third largest cities will enhance the region’s economic competitiveness. The project will also deliver improvements to quality of life and safety for those living along the route and using it on a regular basis.”
“Sustainability is at the centre of this project, which will see the creation of Transport Hubs along the route providing park and ride facilities for users, alongside facilities for cyclists and pedestrians. We welcome this coordinated approach to connectivity, which will promote active and sustainable travel, providing multimodal transport choices. We need to see this project progress now with good momentum and full government approval must be forthcoming at the earliest opportunity to facilitate the project moving to the planning submission phase - delivering much needed improvements to regional connectivity.”
