Cork’s SE Systems Wins National SEAI Energy Award for Douglas Lion House Upgrade
Cork-based SE Systems has been recognised at the 2025 SEAI Energy Awards, winning the Residential Energy Upgrades Award for its work with the Douglas & District Lions Club. The project delivered deep energy upgrades across 18 apartments and two terraced homes in Douglas, significantly improving comfort, affordability and long-term sustainability for18 older residents in the local community.
Completed in 2024, the project combined SEAI Community Energy Grant funding with support from the SE Systems Community Fund, enabling upgrades that many residents would have struggled to access without local support. Works included heat pumps, insulation, new windows and doors, and solar PV, resulting in BER improvements from E1 to A1 in the apartments. For Cork’s local economy and wider community network, the project demonstrates how a homegrown business can deliver national-standard technical excellence while keeping community benefit at the centre. It also highlights SE Systems’ commitment to building a more resilient region by ensuring that local organisations, clubs and residents have access to high-quality, affordable energy upgrades.
Quote from Youenn Lowry, Managing Director, SE Systems:
“This award reflects the heart of what we aim to do every day. When strong technical delivery is paired with genuine community partnership, the impact reaches far beyond energy savings. The Douglas Lions Club project shows how the right support can transform comfort, affordability and quality of life for people who need it most. As a Cork-headquartered company, it is especially meaningful to see this level of impact in our own community while continuing to deliver projects at scale across Ireland. We are incredibly proud of the team and grateful to the residents and partners who worked with us throughout the process.”
Quote from Jason Collins, Technical Director, SE Systems:
“Many of the residents were living with high heating costs and homes that were difficult to keep warm. Seeing the change after the upgrades and hearing how much more comfortable and affordable their homes are now, is the most rewarding part of our work. The Douglas Lions House were fantastic partners and the support from SEAI, and our own Community Fund made the project possible.”
As Cork continues to drive forward on its climate and retrofit targets, SE Systems will remain focused on delivering sustainable energy solutions that benefit households, businesses, and communities across the county.
