Fort2Fort Charity Cycle raises €25,096 for Cork beneficiaries

At a special presentation at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Little Island on 9th October, organisers of the annual Fort2Fort Charity Cycle announced that €25,096 was raised through this year’s event, bringing the total raised since the cycle’s inception in 2012 to over €400,000.

293 cyclists participated in the popular cycle around Cork Harbour on Saturday, 8th June; and funds have now been distributed to the local beneficiaries including the Mercy University Hospital Foundation’s Cancer CARE Centre, four Cork City and County Lions Clubs (Cork, Carrigaline, Cobh and Bishopstown), as well as Carrigaline Men’s Shed and Passage West Men's Shed.

Speaking at the presentation of funds, Deirdre Finn, Head of Fundraising and Interim CEO of the Mercy University Hospital Foundation, which benefitted to the tune of €7,838 from this year’s cycle, said “Fort2Fort was especially poignant this year, as we all grieved the loss of our CEO, Micheál Sheridan to cancer, just days earlier. One of Micheál's proudest career achievements was witnessing the opening of the Mercy Cancer CARE Centre in March this year, a project he tirelessly championed. Now, because of his efforts and the generosity of so many, we have a holistic space where we can offer vital psychological support to patients and their families at every stage of their cancer journey - following diagnosis, during treatment, and beyond.

“Bringing this project to fruition would not have been possible without the support of those who cycled Fort2Fort this year, and over the years, and of course all the sponsors; and for that, we sincerely thank each and every one of them for their steadfast support.”

Sponsors of 2024 Fort2Fort were Cork County Council, Ronan Daly Jermyn, Carbon Group, Radisson Blu, Ahern Roberts O'Rourke Solicitors, Kelloggs, Green Circle Marketing Ltd, MCK EI, Cork Truck Services, Mallow Road Motors, MSL, Michael Pigott Auctioneer, LOGITECH, FDC, Ceiling and Allied, Eurospar Cobh, and Lidl Cobh.
