Merck Introduces new Global Caregiver Leave Benefit for Employees Supporting Employees in “Moments that Matter”
Merck, a leading global science and technology company with operations in Blarney and Carrigtwohill, has announced the launch of a new global Caregiver Leave Benefit to support employees who are caring for loved ones. This inclusive benefit is part of Merck’s broader “Moments that Matter Leave” (MTML) suite, aimed at providing employees with support during life’s most pivotal moments.
The new policy is designed to complement existing leave entitlements and country-specific regulations, offering flexibility and compassion to employees navigating caregiving responsibilities.
“At Merck, caring is not just a value, it’s a commitment,” said Mark Dunphy, Managing Director and Head of Cork Operations, Merck Carrigtwohill. “We understand that many of our colleagues will, at some point, take on the role of caregiver, often balancing this with work and other life pressures. This new benefit ensures they are supported with the time and resources needed to care for loved ones without compromising their own wellbeing.”
Merck has a strong track record of advocating for caregivers. Since launching the global Embracing Carers® initiative in 2017, the company has collaborated with leading carer organisations worldwide to raise awareness and provide resources, including training and upskilling, to support both caregivers and those they care for.
Following the rollout of Merck’s Global Fertility Benefit Programme in 2024, the Caregiver Leave Benefit is the second fully global, inclusive policy introduced by the company and the first under its new MTML suite. MTML policies are designed to adapt to local employment laws while recognising the diverse needs of Merck’s global workforce.
