Network Cork and LEO Cork City Unite for Insightful Event: Beyond the Glow – Building a Business with Heart

Network Ireland Cork, in partnership with Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Cork City, successfully hosted a powerful and insightful event, “Beyond the Glow: Building a Business with Heart, on September 4th at the prestigious Millennium Hall, City Hall, Cork. Over 160 members and guests, gathered for an inspiring exploration of the human side of entrepreneurship. 

In her opening address Susana Marambio, President of Network Cork set the tone for the evening by emphasising the importance of authenticity, empathy, and resilience in the business world. ”In a world that often feels chaotic and uncertain, authenticity, empathy, and resilience are the essential ingredients for success. By being true to ourselves, connecting with others on a human level, and persevering through challenges, we can create a more meaningful and fulfilling business journey.”

The Cork branch of Network Ireland was honoured to have the Lord Mayor of Cork City, Cllr. Dan Boyle in attendance who shared his admiration for the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit in Cork and stressed the essential role the business community plays in driving innovation and growth in the local economy.

The event was the second collaboration between Network Cork and LEO Cork City this year and highlights the shared commitment to empowering local businesses and entrepreneurs. Speaking at the event, Niall O’Keeffe, Head of Enterprise at Cork City Council said <”Our goal is to provide the resources and support that local businesses and entrepreneurs need to thrive and succeed. We're proud to partner with Network Cork to showcase the inspiring work being done in our community”>.

Deirdre O’Shaughnessey, News Editor of the Irish Examiner, served as the MC for the event, guiding the evening with her dynamic and engaging style. She began by welcoming keynote speaker Chupi Sweetman, Founder and CEO of Chupi Jewellery. Chupi captivated the audience with her story of building a brand that not only stands for beauty and elegance but also for ethical practices and celebrating life’s precious moments. Her journey, marked by resilience and innovation, offered valuable insights to all present.

After Chupi’s fascinating insights into building a business, a thought-provoking panel discussion was held featuring Karen O’Reilly, Founder of EmployFlex, serial entrepreneur and author, Pat Lynch, and Sean O’Sullivan, Founder and Design Director at Badly Made Books. The panelists, along with Chupi, shared their experiences and strategies on building businesses that align with personal values, overcoming challenges with determination, and leveraging passion to achieve success. The discussion emphasised the importance of empathy and human connection in creating a lasting impact through business.

The event was a resounding success, leaving attendees inspired and equipped with new perspectives on how to build businesses that are not only successful but also heart-driven.
