Orla McAndrew lends her culinary skill and passion to two events this weekend supporting Gaza

Cork Chef and Business owner Orla McAndrew is bringing her culinary expertise and passion to two special events this weekend in aid of the children of Gaza. The latest event in the EMPTY BOWLS for Gaza series will take place at St. Peter’s Church, North Main Street on Saturday April 13th and on Sunday 14th Grá to Gaza from Glenville will take place, both events providing a wonderful experience to those wanted to offer support and solidarity to Gaza.

Cork Empty Bowls Food Gathering for Palestine
On Saturday, April 13th from 2pm at St Peters Cork, attendees at the EMPTY BOWLS Cork Palestinian Food Gathering will receive a beautiful handcrafted clay bowl, one of many made throughout the project at Nano Nagle Place. At the event there will be music, poetry readings, collectable art and a number of spot prizes and draws on the day, including bowls made by the actor Mary McEvoy, Darina Allen, and Rory O’Connell, among others.

Attendees will be treated to the delights of Palestinian cuisine in their hand crafted clay bowl which they will then be able to take home to enjoy into the future.

Led by Irish fine art sculptor and ceramicist, Martha Cashman, the movement in Cork continues to raise much needed funds for Médicins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders) in Gaza.

“This food gathering is a culmination of a huge community collaboration; from the crafting and firing of bowls, provision of food and labour, prizes and funding for Doctors without Borders in Palestine,” said Martha Cashman, event organiser.

“As an artist I am responding in the best way I can to the dreadful and unbelievable daily torture of the people of Gaza. By bringing my skill and passion for food and collaborating with other artists we are creating a spoace for people to come together in solidarity as well as raising vital funds”, added Orla McAndrew.

Tickets are very limited and are available here. Some walks-ins will be accepted on the day.
