Triskel And Sample-Studios’ Residencies Remain A Critical Support To Artists As The Partners Announce 7 New Artists For 2026
Triskel Arts Centre and Sample-Studios are delighted to announce 7 new artist residencies and exhibitions for Cork City in 2026 in the TRISKEL SAMPLE Project Space. This partnership between Triskel Arts Centre and Sample-Studios, one of Ireland’s largest artist studios, was first established in 2024 with the mission to provide a new city-centre space that offers a developmental opportunity for local visual artists to make and present new work. Since then, it has hosted 44 artists who undertook 12 residencies, presented 13 exhibitions, and facilitated 49 Free Public Events.
As Tony Sheehan, Triskel Arts Centre Director explains, “In advance of our new Strategic Plan, we have worked in partnership with Sample-Studios extensively to assess the needs of Cork’s visual arts community and how the Arts Centre might best work to bolster their ambition. Following research and consultation, it was identified that emerging and mid-career artists particularly in Cork lacked quality platforms to present their work to new audiences but also to develop work experimentally and in consultation with that audience.” Aoibhie McCarthy, Sample-Studios Artistic Director, elaborates “TRISKEL SAMPLE Project Space was established to provide a visual arts developmental project space for artists to test ideas, develop new work, experiment and take risks within a hybrid artist workspace/public exhibition space model that has proven hugely impactful as a platform.”
2025’s programme included solo exhibitions by Tetiana Milshyna, Viktoria Kondratieva, Kate McElroy, and Maitiú Mac Cárthaigh, who also undertook focused month-long residencies along with Fiona Boniwell, Annie Mar, and Ava Hayes. The 2025 programme culminated in a Cork Zine Fest takeover in November and solo exhibition by local artist Conor O’ Brien this December. The programme for 2026 promises to be even more jam packed with a diverse range of artist residencies, public exhibitions, workshops, and free events. The space will see the development of photography, painting, artistic research, writing, a children’s playspace, and a festival. The 2026 Artists in Residence will be:
January/February: Síomha Callanan
March/April: Kim Crowley
May/June: Chris Finnegan
July/August: Billy Lingwood
September/October: Sarah Long
November: Cork Zine Fest Residency
