Triskel Cinema Showing the love this Valentine's

Classic films are a staple of the cinema programme at Triskel Arts Centre, particularly on Valentine’s Day, when they show beloved film Casablanca. This year, they’re adding to their romantic film line-up with a slightly more modern classic, When Harry Met Sally... Tickets for both films, which are showing on Friday 14 February, are on sale now.

“Showing Casablanca has become an annual tradition for us,” said Chris O’Neill, Head of Cinema at Triskel. “This year, we’re adding a film that is about love and friendship and also has a connection to Casablanca – during their film, Harry and Sally watch the movie and argue over various plotlines. So, as well as being a timeless romantic film in its own right, we love its connection to what is an important part of our programme.”

Does sex make it impossible for men and women to be true friends? This is the dilemma Harry and Sally debate when they first meet in college. When they reconnect years later, they’re no closer to agreeing on an answer, but one fateful night is about to put their theories to the test… When Harry Met Sally… shows at 6pm on Friday 14th February, followed at 8pm by Casablanca.

Set against the backdrop of World War II, this has been voted among the best War Movies of all time, and also among the best Romantic Movies. Starring Humphrey Bogart as nightclub-owner Rick Blaine, and Ingrid Berman as his star-crossed lover Ilsa Lund, the triangle is completed by Ilsa’s husband Victor Laszlo, portrayed by Paul Henreid. The film is based on an unproduced play which was titled Everybody Comes to Rick’s and is the most quotable movie according to the American Film Institute, with lines such as ‘Here’s looking at you kid’ and ‘I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.’
