Before Sunrise

Before Sunrise

Jesse (Ethan Hawke) is a young American travelling through Europe. Céline (Julie Delpy) is a French student returning to Paris after visiting her grandmother. They strike up a conversation on a train travelling from Budapest to Vienna. Jesse suggests to Céline that she should also experience Vienna with him and postpone the rest of her journey until the following morning. During the next 14 hours they reveal their most intimate thoughts and experiences as they wander around the city. BEFORE SUNRISE is rightly considered to be one of the finest romantic films of all time.

“The charm - the midsummer enchantment - never feels forced; it steals up and wins you. A true romance.” The New Yorker

BEFORE SUNRISE TRILOGY

1995 saw the release of BEFORE SUNRISE, the classic romantic drama starring Julie Delpy (as Céline) and Ethan Hawke (as Jesse) which was directed by Richard Linklater. To mark the 30th anniversary of its original release, Triskel Arts Centre is screening not only BEFORE SUNRISE but also its two fine sequels: BEFORE SUNSET and BEFORE MIDNIGHT. Each of these pictures are sharply written, finely acted and eloquently directed as they detail the relationship of Jesse and Céline over an 18-year period.
