Smithereens: Susan Seidelman Season

Smithereens: Susan Seidelman Season

Wren is a 19-year-old from New Jersey who wants to be a rock star. The trouble is she can't sing or play an instrument, but in New York's seedy underworld, new doors are opening... A vibrant time capsule of the gritty East Village and its young Eighties punk life, Susan Seidelman made her directorial debut with SMITHEREENS. The film earned much praise and even competed for the Palme d'or - making it one of America’s trailblazing indies before the movement kicked into high gear at the end of the decade.

“A spirited mix of indie grit and DIY aesthetics.” Film Frenzy

SUSAN SEIDELMAN SEASON

Triskel Arts Centre is delighted to present a selection of films from director Susan Seidelman. Starting with the impressive independently made SMITHEREENS, she went onto direct the wonderfully witty DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN with Rosanna Arquette and Madonna, the good-natured sci-fi comedy MAKING MR. RIGHT with John Malkovich, and the wickedly humorous revenge tale SHE-DEVIL, which gave Meryl Streep her first comedic role. Check out all of these films which are screening part of this season.
